Hey Guys, Firstly thanks for all those who attended....even the guys who never used a tablet before, we will get you guys using a tablet like its second nature! Think of these workshops as a Q&A also. So ask away and get as much info from me as you can so your more aware of how it can benefit your practice.
Here is quick recap for what you need to do over easter.
A canvas of silhouettes, draw big then shrink down and place into rows next to each other. Although its the first step of the process it is still important to make your canvas presentable, as it will be sent to clients! Canvas size, just use international paper at 72 pixels per inch. You will feel the need to zoom in a lot but don't, keep zoomed out and be gestural.
Handy shortcuts for the silhouette phase
alt - will copy and paste your silhouette to where ever you drag it to. Good to quickly lay out your silhouettes ready to work some designs onto.
cmd T - selects your image to transform i.e. adjust size of image . Hold shift whilst adjusting the size to keep the scale uniformed.
other shortcuts are on the below post, Just scroll down to the TOOLS part for now, that has all you need for this phase.
Assigning tablet buttons to keyboard shortcuts
Top left of screen, click on apple sign, Go to system preferences, and you will see the wacom tablet symbol at the bottom. Click that to open options and you can map the buttons on your tablet to keyboard shortcuts to make life a little easier for you...its good for getting a comfortable workflow. Just type in the shortcuts to what ever button you want and name it. I would advise using the touch strip to change brush size. (Bush size shortcut smaller - [, bigger - ])
Pick your strongest silhouette, look for overall shape and how it reads. select them with the lasso tool (L) and copy paste to new canvas (landscape canvas) make a new layer above them and paint in some details, just enough to make it readable. Then save them as a jpeg before you go any further. I need to see the separate canvas's. I don't mind if you want to detail one of them even more and add colour....but i will be showing you how to do that when we get back from easter. But either way its good practice for you to try it on your own. Keep it greyscale use the tablet to your advantage, applying more pressure for darker lines and less for lighter.
Tablets are in kierens office, don't be scared to take one when ever you want to. Also good news guys, we have ordered 10 new tablets!!!
This is a great time for you to gain an understanding of digital illustration and what you can use it for in your own practice before September. The more i know about what you need the more i can structure it to your needs.
SO GIVE ME LOTS OF FEEDBACK OF THINGS YOU WANT TO KNOW AND WHAT YOU THINK WILL HELP YOU! TELL KIEREN,JEN OR ANDREW AND THEY WILL TELL ME.
