Game Design Document

Guys I have a Character backstory here, for the guys interested in being a concept artist, you will be asked to follow this theme so you become more aware of how a concept artist works. Also i added a GDD (game design document) So you can also see some of the thought process in making a video game.

Duncan
The Crimson Knights have always been a significant presence in the world of Ilastria; they protect its people from the vile and savage orcs that plague the world as well as any other factions that threaten the peace.
Duncan was orphaned at birth and was found crying upon the steps of the Crimson Knight's Training Barracks, the order took him in and nurtured him and Duncan grew to accept them as his family, his earliest and fondest memories being of him sparring with the older initiates and besting them often to the resounding cheers of approval from the veterans, he had a gift for the art of warfare and as he grew so did his gift, often emerging victorious from an untold number of duels Duncan was an exceptional Knight in almost every way.
Sometime later the Order had received reports that many of their outposts beyond their abandoned fortress Inaolia were under increasing numbers of attack and would soon be lost if the onslaughts continued; The Order dispatched their finest warriors, among which was Duncan, to ensure the safety of the Towns and Villages that were located nearest to Inaolia.
Duncan embraced his orders with zeal and set forth to his assigned destination; As he traveled through the one of the dense forests of the Human Kingdoms he was ambushed by a group of bandits, in normal circumstances Duncan could take on enemies ten times his own number but as he was about to press his attack a noose strangled his foot and thrust him up into the trees, while disoriented and disabled he received a sharp slam to the back of his head and slowly started to lose consciousness and the world gradually grew darker but not before he heard the slice of steel cutting flesh and an agonising yell of pain.
He awoke in a small hovel lying in a makeshift straw bed with a fire that him warm, his armour lay beside him along with his weapons, he sat up but then regretted the decision as his head was still spinning from the impact, he winced in pain as lightly touched the lump on his head and at that second a shrouded figure burst through the door flaps, Duncan reached for his sword but the figure spoke out first and assured Duncan that he wouldn't need protection and moved to remove his hood and beneath it was a face weathered by the elements but tough and hard all the same, a warriors face thought Duncan; The man introduced himself as Ezekiel and suggested Duncan rest before he set off again and would not hear of anything else.
When Duncan woke once again the man was sitting around the fire staring blindly at the flames, Duncan decided to prepare himself to leave and as he donned his armour Ezekiel spoke out, "There are horrors in this world, stuff made of nightmares", Duncan asked him about what he meant and as the old man spoke and described the story Duncan's eyes grew wide with horror, he spoke of the battle of Inaolia, the true battle he called it and described it as a battle waged with a handful of horrors so powerful that they defeated both the Orcs and the Knights before the sun rose; Naturally Duncan was enraged at first, he thought of it as some cruel jape to insult the strength of the Crimson Knights at that Ezekiel removed the shroud covering his body only to reveal a disgusting sight of semi healed scars but in the midst of that he could make out a single spot of flesh that wasn't affected and that bore a withed tattoo of an
enraged dragon, a mark only given to the finest of finest warriors within the order and for this man to be reduced to what he was now shocked Duncan and when questioning Ezekiel on why he hadn't returned to the new fortress he said that it was because the Order wishes for the events of that day to die the very same or would kill anyone who brought it about, it was then Duncan realised that this man was survivor of that day, a flurry of emotions raged through Duncan, Anger and Confusion with a dab of betrayal thrown in but with no one to aim it at; They both stood there staring at the fire in silence but it was not long before Ezekiel broke it and told Duncan to seek out Inaolia if he wanted proof and Duncan left that hovel doing intending to do just that.

1. User Experience
1. Overview
Siege of Inaolia is a 3rd Person action RPG that blends elements such as horror, role playing elements, team play never before seen in a game, The game leads you through the story of 3 heroes as they unwillingly team up in a desperate attempt to survive the orc warpath within (Stronghold) Inaolia , each of the heroes has their own reason for being near Inaolia which is explained through in game banter between characters, Not only will the game feature 3 unique heroes each with their own back story, opinions and 3 separate Mastery skill trees, but also it will feature a massive ‘playground’ for the players to immerse themselves a.k.a. Inaolia, as well as a dynamic weather system, Cover systems, line of sight systems as well as physics gameplay, the game will include dynamic mini-objectives that will allow the players to aim for something as they progress through the main storyline, the game will offer a Dark, Gritty, Fantasy setting, with gore and dismemberment where viable, It will also feature boss battles, the players will have the freedom to decide which area of Inaolia would be right for which situation and if so what should be used in that situation e.g. Catapults.

The Game also has a secondary mode dubbed ‘survival arenas’ which is much smaller than the story mode, more focused and with a single purpose to survive as long as possible against the hordes of enemies that will plague you, the main difference between this mode and the story mode are:
1) Focuses on one character(tho plans to include co-op in this mode will be discussed)
2) Small scale(think almost the size of a gladiators arena)
3)Constant flow of enemies
This mode will give us our initial foundation as all our mechanics and technology can be tested out in this very mode.
2. Deployment
Siege of Inaolia will be deployed on the Steam Digital Distribution Platform by Valve software and also be released onto Desura as well as Gamers Gate.
3. Background
The Inspiration mainly came from survival modes in AAA games such as Nazi Zombies/Zombies mode within the last few Call of Duty Series even some Indie games such as Killing floor. The main Idea was to create a Video Game that had the quality and look of a AAA game but with the ideas of an Indie game, we want to offer a compelling story as well as a lot of Replayability instead of repetitive and a lack of any story commonly found in most survival games.
4. Key Features
The Game Should Be Easy to Pick Up and Pass to a Friend
Each Class Should Be and Feel Unique
Team Play with people online or offline A.I.
Fun to Play
A Rewarding Experience
2 Distinct and Different Enemy Factions that have their own fighting style and methods to be eliminated
To make sure it is NOT a game you can pass simply by clicking and spamming abilities and attacks

5. Depth
By offering a small yet well defined set of skills for each Mastery selection we allow players to easily customize their hero to suit their play style, as well as various mechanics in the game each situation can be approached in a different way.
6. Reward System
Siege of Inaolia has multiple ways of rewarding the player, while playing within the game as you defeat enemies you earn experience points which add up to give you a skill point, this skill point can be invested in one of the 5 passive abilities or one of the 10 activated abilities, as players defeat bosses via boss battles their characters will often loot the bosses which would give them unique abilities for use in or out of combat for example the first boss you encounter would be an Orc General, he draws his power from three pulsating beads that allow him to enrage for a short while(while enraged he receives no damage but deals more damage), once players are able to defeat him they are each able to loot one bead that would give them the enrage ability, this is one way we intend to not only reward the player but also to freshen up the gameplay every few waves.
Out of the game we hope to include cosmetic rewards in the form of armor sets and weapons, they would offer no in game benefits apart from being a distinguishing factor between players who have invested a lot of time into the game and those who have not.
you also earn ‘Score’ points while in game, these score points are added up and would be a sort of currency to allow players to buy armor sets, weapons, cosmetic medals for their characters and such, you are awarded more score points for more exotic kills, for example you would earn perhaps 100 points for killing an orc with a simple melee or ranged attack, you would earn 250 if you were able to somehow throw him off one of the walls or impale him on spikes.
We also intend to offer achievements and due to Siege of Inaolia’s size, we intend to have as many as 50 achievements which would have via steam.
7. Meaningfulness
Siege of Inaolia’s story revolves around Three heroes, Duncan, Draeldos and Esaya, the story originally has them working together as a team as a mutual understanding but as the game progresses that relationship evolves into something deeper almost as a dysfunctional functional family, the values we try to instill are the bonds that are formed when people are put into a difficult situation and how those bonds grow into something stronger.

8. World
A Brief History of Ilastria
It is said that long ago there existed three Gods, Magar the god of Chaos and Rage, Aelunia the goddess of Harmony and Order  and Karum the god of Magic and Neutrality; They created the universe and decided its path according to the choice most in favor, Magar and Aelunia would each offer one side of an argument and Karum would tip the scales in favor of one or the other but during the Age of Creation on a world they named Ilastria something new was forming that was not of their design nor decision, Life was erupting within the planet and spewing forth primitive beings that they had no control over and this troubled them.
An arguement raged for a millennia between the gods each having their own views on these life forms, Magar wanted to destroy Ilastria and any other world that gave birth to life, Aelunia wanted to let them live and flourish while offering them guidance and Karum wanted to unearth the secrets they had come from and in the end Ilastria was spared but Magar was not pleased, he took up his mighty axe and despite the unanimous decision from the other gods he stuck Ilastria and cleaved it into two halves.
Aelunia and Karum were both horrified and saddened by Magar actions and resolved to undo the damage he had caused, while he slept they cut a strip of his flesh and bound it around Ilastria and made it whole again, they knew that this would cause a great strife between the three so Aelunia and Karum agreed to combine their power and combat Magar, after a vicious battle Aelunia and Karum won and split Magars essence across their universe they then agreed to do the same to themselves and left their universe to the still infant life forming on Ilastria, thus ended the Age of Creation.

From the ashes of the Age of Creation rose the Age of Strife, Ilastria had been home to many strange and wonderful beasts yet two dominant races climbed their way to the top, the Orcs, Green, tusked and numerous struggling for dominance against the Humans, Colored, Cunning and Intelligent and after nearly a century of struggle with blood the Humans emerged victorious and pushed the Orcs towards one half of the Binding Belt while they inhabited the other.
In their half the humans formed mighty kingdoms and cultivated their lands whilst expanding their knowledge of the world around them, it was soon discovered that a few rare individuals possessed the gift to wield magic and in time even control it, these few individuals were often scorned, hated and feared for their immense raw power, this led to a group of these gifted humans to create a white city far from the reach of normal humans where more of their kind would be able to cultivate and grow their gift and so came the Wizards; Two more factions were made from the human kingdoms, The Crimson Knights - Humanities finest warriors given the best mental conditioning and physical training along with the very best equipment to defend against the foes of mankind and The Theives - Unwealthy folk that took to a live of pick pocketing, cut pursing, mugging and assassination, they sought to steal their way to a better life, these two factions often clashed due to their conflicting goals, The Crimson Knights were there to safeguard humanity while the Thieves stole from and killed innocents, the Head of the order resolved to create a mighty fortress within the only safe gap of the Binding Belt so that they could combat the orc assaults with ease on one end and deploy Knights to combat the thieves on the other, they named the Fortress Inaolia and used it as their head quarters.
In the other half however life was very different, the orcs lived a primitive tribal lifestyle with various chieftains ruling over individual clans a few more powerful orcs would be able to unite a few clans under his control but it would have taken a truly mighty orc to gather all of the clansmen under one banner but none were able to rise up to the challenge, the landscape was untamed and brutal where the vegetation could be as dangerous as the wildlife and the orcs had learned to live alongside the other races that populated their half of Ilastria ranging from the Ogres of the black forest to the Cyclopes in their frozen hells; The Orcs were often counseled and guided by wrinkled orcs who had mastered primal yet powerful magic and were able to call down lightning bolts or even bring back their kin from the brink of death, the orcs prized them and called them shaman; Eventually a Chieftain by the name of Bjor rose up and was Bold, Powerful and Cunning even for an orc was able to gather most of the orc clans under his might but was intent on gathering the entire horde for one purpose, to strike at the humans and wipe their race from Ilastria, the Chieftain sent smaller hordes to test the might of the humans only to find out that they had new defenders known as the Crimson Knights and he knew that his horde was not prepared so over time he kept increasing his horde, either by making other clan chieftains bow before him or severing their heads in a battle to the death and all was going according to his plan.
However on the Human side the great Fortress Inaolia was built and the Crimson Knights were setting up outposts to exploit their neighbors untapped natural resources, The Crimson Knights were able to harvest efficiently a quarter of the way into the orc half whist holding the Orcs back with minimal effort which surprised the Order. In the mean while Inaolia was being expanded to incorporate a city, the people saw Inaolia as a symbol of strength and wanted to bask in the wealth that came from the outposts beyond the belt; This culminated in a decade of peace.
Bjor was not idle however he had amassed his massive army and had brought the Ogres, Cyclopes and all manner of beast to him and armed them with leather and raided steel, the Crimson Knights were slowly trying to extend their reach further into Orc land and he would not have it, he summoned his army and marched them towards the outposts and within three days the outposts fell in a swift manner overrun by the green tide.
The Crimson Knights had received reports that their outposts were under attack but by the time they had amassed their entire force and sent the civilians far away their outposts had fallen and the orcs were just beyond Inaolia's mighty gates; A legion of five hundred thousand knights faced up against ten million orcs and according to the history books of scholars the Crimson Knights defeated the orcs and slew Bjor but that was not how it ended, night had fallen when the armies readied themselves for battle but before they could clash a purple portal opened up swirling with fire and the smell of death and spewed out a small score of unknown figured, horned and grotesque as they were their bodies possessed horrible power and that very same handful of Daemons wiped out both the Orcs and the Crimson Knights and fled into their portal before the sun could rise.
Bjor was nowhere to be seen but one could hardly tell Crimson Knight from Orc due to their bodies so horribly twisted and destroyed, the survivors of the Order decided to reforge their home fortress deep within the human kingdoms and had falsely claimed that the gap of the Binding Belt was closed forever due to the battle between the Orcs and Knights and since there does not exist a safer way for either side so cross over they were left to their own devices, the Orcs numbers were in danger as was the security of the Humans.

Now Ilastria lies in ruins, the Human kingdoms cannot defend against another orc onslaught of that scale and the thieves have risen to power due to the Crimson Knights numbers numbering less than the tens of thousands, the orcs grow in number rapidly and doomsayers speak of a new orc Chieftain intent on destroying mankind and claim even if the Orcs do not come through the gap of Inaolia due to their sheer population growth and numbers there are numerous possible ways to get over the Binding Belts deadly routes be it traversing its icy peaks or attempting to sail through the Kraken breeding grounds and still have enough surviving members to pose a great threat to the humans.
The Binding Belt cannot be tunneled as an opposing range of increasingly dense minerals lay beneath it and the current tools of either side cannot effectively penetrate through to one side, it could possibly take decades to burrow from one side to the other not taking into account the scalding heat and the shifting layers of earth underground.
A new age rises up once again from the ashes of the former, an time when great change will be brought about through suffering and blood.

9. Collectibles, Easter Eggs & Unlockables
Yet to be Decided.
Gameplay
10. Story Mode Objective
The main objective of Siege of Inaolia is to survive the orc warpath that is currently at the heroes doorstep, soon after you discover that you not only have to deal with orcs but with the Daemons as well, The overall main objective would be to survive the 50 waves(wave count is not final and is subject to change) till you reach the end, there will be multiple mini-objectives within the game to allow the players to have something to aim for other than surviving the 50 waves, for example you might have a mini-objective to kill 50 orcs or the objectives might ask you to get 100 headshots on the orcs, these objectives not only give you something to aim for but also provide you with experience and score points, players can aim to climb the leader board, a lot of factors would determine the position of a player on the leader board which would be Total Score, Total Kills, Objectives Completed, Skill Kills Done.(Factors are subject to change)
As a reward players who Rank within the top 100 - 150 would be given a unique cosmetic medal award for placement on their character.
Survival Arena Objective
To survive as long as you can against the ever increasing number of enemies which in turn increases your score.

11. Mechanics
Siege of Inaolia will be home to 2 separate modes of play, the Story mode and Survival Arenas,
The story mode of Siege of Inaolia features a 3rd Person View of your currently selected hero, it will also feature a cover system which will allow players to pop in and out of cover to avoid damage as well as allowing players to set up ambushes, the game would also use a line of sight system which would allow for stealth kills and would also lead to enemies splitting up from their groups to search for the heroes, we also intend to include a dynamic weather system which would offer a change of scenery, we also include visceral ranged and melee combat and lastly but not least it will feature a day and night cycle which affects when you fight a particular enemy faction.

The Survival Arenas are smaller, focused, infinite wave based mode where the players main objective is to survive as long as they can, the goal behind this mode is not only to offer the player with little time on his/her hands to get their daily fix of Siege of Inaolia but allow the Dev Crew to test out new mechanics, game play and allow for extra time for refinement on the story mode.
13. Controls
The game will take full advantage of the mouse and keyboard while offering easy and memorable controls, the number keys (1-0) will be used to activate one of the 10 activated abilities, the default Movement controls will be as such, W(Move Forward), A(Strafe Left), S(Move Backwards), D(Strafe Right), The Mouse would control the facing of the camera while the left mouse button would be used for a melee attack, holding the left mouse button would cause a more powerful heavy attack to be charged up, the right mouse button would be to block, the middle mouse button would be used for special Hero specific abilities such as Duncans Bash ability which stuns the foe he gets in contact with or Draeldos’ force blast which causes him to slam his staff into the ground releasing a wave of force that pushes enemies back, Esaya’s skills are still work in progress, Using the Shift key players are able to sprint for a short duration, Holding the Left Control key players would switch into their range mode which would move the camera into an over the shoulder view(this is not applicable for Duncan) using the left mouse button while in this mode would cause Draeldos and Esaya to fire their ranged projectiles, holding it down would cause Draeldos to charge up a bigger blast or Esaya to shoot her arrows in an arc, the Right mouse button in this mode would be used for Character specific abilities such as Draeldos’ levitation ability which allows him to pick up and hurl various props at enemies, as you level this skill up you are able to lift bigger object, lift more objects and perhaps even infuse them with elemental magic(still being considered), There will be loot from boss battles that would give you special abilities you can go through the various loot you receive via the mouse scroll button and use them via the Middle mouse button.
14. Interactive Elements
There will be some elements that the player will be allowed to interact with, props can be levitated and thrown at enemies, the game will also feature some selective destructibility which would allow some floors to collapse, Players might also be allowed to interact with doors to Open, Close, Break or Reinforce them.
15. Physics
The physics in the game should be fairly realistic, we hope to allow the players to use their surroundings to their advantage such as having a chandelier drop on a group of orcs heads killing them all or perhaps knocking back a group of orcs into a pit of lava.
16. Characters & Units
1) Duncan

2) Draeldos
Magic, the ultimate mystery of Ilastria, its splendor overshadowed only by its mysterious power; In its most raw form magic can be used to summon forth the destructive elements of nature but this power is not limited by the laws of the world often able to slow the flow of time and heal even the most incurable of diseases it is a mysterious force that has baffled scholars and wise men alike to its origins and as to how pockets of land and a small minority of people have been influenced by it; Such power however is not without price as most common folk regard it as an affront to the laws of nature.
Draeldos was born amongst the smell of pigs and manure to a struggling family who survived by selling eggs, milk and thieving; Being the first male to be born into a family full of females his father and mother regarded him as a blessing and of fortunes soon to come, unfortunately that would all change soon.
As he grew Draeldos he would often have bring home a stolen book amongst his daily clump of coppers and food often to the disapproving beatings of his father and yet despite all that he had somehow taught himself to read by oft questioning the odd symbols on some looted piece of paper to passing scholars and eavesdropping on the conversations of the wise and would often spend nights reading through an assortment of history or tall tales but there was one topic he was most interested in, Magic and silently wished to be someone with such power.
His wish would soon be granted on his tenth birthday as he scorched his sisters face while wrestling for a child's toy, it shocked his family and sent him into a horrified state of tears as he saw his hands enflame and confusion as he felt no pain but that was soon put to an end as he received a swift knock to the head by his father. He woke up in bed to the sobs of his mother and sister and the curses of his father and managed to pick up a few words, abomination and curse being two and as he regained his strength to walk towards them they retreated and cowered before him while his father ran towards him and thrust him out the door and he lay there, face down in the muck of the streets sobbing in confusion.
He awoke the next morning to the sound of hooves beating the ground and soon noticed that he was on horseback and behind him was a man with arms covered with odd and unknown symbols that glowed bright even in the light of day, The man had noticed Draeldos had woken and told him not to worry as they would arrive soon and that he should get some rest and Draeldos did exactly that but not before noting the warm eyes and smile on the man's face as well as his hair grey yet still dotted with multiple stands of black.
This time the man had woken him and told him to prepare himself for the sight beyond the next hill but no one could prepare Draeldos for the marvel he saw; floating masses of earth with tall buildings in a pristine white and silver hue, it was beyond his wildest dream. "Young Draeldos, welcome to your new home, The White Towers. I am Ordello and I will guide you from now on." The man said and they proceeded to move towards it with Draeldos' eyes filling with tears.
Here Draeldos was informed that he was destined to be a wizard and could master the violent powers of magic within him but only if he chose and naturally without a moment's hesitation he accepted; Draeldos was an exceptionally powerful user of magic, in terms of raw power rivaling the more experienced members of the White Tower but never even close to his mentor, Ordello. Draeldos owed much to the man who saved him from his pathetic life but at the same time he lived in fear of his past and resolved to never be that weak again, at this point his lust for knowledge was unstable and he soon he had mastered more spells and understood most of the secrets of the world than most of the elders within the order, he was a prodigy but somehow was still never able to surpass Ordello and with each of Ordello's victory so grew Draeldos' pit of fear and when Draeldos confronted Ordello and asked him why was he still not able to defeat him Ordello simply replied that magic was not only about mastering techniques and books but was about the heart, mind and soul of the caster itself and hearing that Draeldos walked off infuriated but Ordello was aware that a darkness grew inside him.
Wizard are able to mark runes on their arms that allow them to channel power, various rune markings exists but there are those forbidden due to the danger they pose to the world. Ordello along with the other masters of the White tower were summoned to the ancient vault as it was reported as opened and as he ran towards the vault he grinned at the stupidity of the situation as the vault was sealed by powerful and ancient magic furthermore impossible to open save for the masters but his words were jammed back into his throat as he saw the massive door torn apart and then without a word he ran towards the grand entrance of the main tower.
It was the most saddening sight for Ordello as he observed Draeldos covered with ancient runes with a grin so confident and pleased, "I have failed you, forgive me Draeldos" and with that Ordello assaulted Draeldos and a flurry of magic flew from both sides but within the span of a few minutes Ordello knew he was fighting a lost battle and with that thought he was flung to the wall and was unable to move, "Master I am sorry for this but now I know where to go, I can never go back to how I was before you saved me""This is not the path Draeldos, do not do this""Goodbye Master" and with that he disappeared in a flash of lightning to his goal, Inaolia

3) Esaya
The Thieves Guild has always been a thorn in the side of the Human Kingdoms, its ranks comprised of scores of mercenaries, cutthroats and all manner of poverty stricken souls dragged into societies underbelly to avoid hunger and death; All lead by a single elusive figure often taking on the title, King of Thieves. The Guild often organizes unpredictable raids on the least expecting targets, striking at a moment's notice and vanishing back into the shadows leaving entire towns pillaged and burned.
Esaya was born a Nobles daughter and though her mother tragically perished at childbirth her father regarded her as his greatest treasure, her mother was known throughout the city as a beautiful woman a fact that even age did not change if the talk of nobles was to be believed, regardless as she grew Esaya inherited her mother's looks, her raven hair and striking blue eyes drew the eyes of many a passerby and some would say that she even surpassed her mother but it would seem that her greatest blessing would soon become the cause of her greatest pain.
Word had reached the then current King of Thieves of Esayas vast beauty and he thought it fit to have such a treasure as his Queen and soon arrangements were made to do so. The Guild raided her city under the cover of nightfall and slowly slit the throats of the guards posted outside along the path to Esaya's families mansion but the near perfect plan was ruined by sudden blood curling scream disturbing the silent mood and alerting the nearby guards as a sleepless Esaya gazing out her window noticed a guard face down in a pool of his blood, the game was on as the Guild sped up their attack putting multiple buildings to the torch as they made their way up the hill and ever closer to Esaya when all of a sudden her concentration was broken by her father bursting in the room with a pair of guards but before she could shed tears of relief one of the guards brutally carved a bloody smile into the throat of his partner before thrusting the same bloodied knife through her father's back, time seemed to slow down as she witnessed the glistening red metal burst through her old man's chest, she screamed as loud as she could all her relief turning into agonizing grief in a split second all while the man smiled and said "Hello my pretty" and with that Esaya's world faded to black.
She awoke in darkness, an assortment of foul odors filled her lungs and the faint sound of flowing water was all that she could gather, she sobbed bitterly suddenly remembering her father's death and the evil smile on the man who took him from her, she took her pain and channeled it to hate vowing to kill him the way he killed her father; She heard the jingle of keys and was blinded as light burst into the room accompanied by the ancient creaking of a door being swung open. "My oh my, what have they done to you precious" that sinister voice, she knew it! "Don't worry, no one shall harm you as long as you behave" and as her eyes adjusted she saw his face and without hesitation spat in it, he smiled but it was clear that he did not like that one bit and he hoisted her up on her feet and grabbed her arm and pulled her forth out of that drab room and into a murky corridor and as they proceeded on further new sounds emerged, the yelling, laughter and curses of unruly men echoing all around her, she was led with tears running down her face through a maze of tunnels when finally they stopped at a door and he shoved her in "You must look presentable for our wedding, you'll find what you need here" and with that he left her to her own devices, she noticed the room had a simple straw bed along with a candle on a wooden crate probably as a makeshift table and a black dress, Esaya's thoughts ran to the hellish memory of that glistening red blade jutting out from her father's chest and she sobbed uncontrollably unaware of what should be her next step, her life was pulled from under her feet sending her down a bottomless pit of sorry and fear and yet no matter what she did she could not forget the evil grin on the man's face, she feared of the consequences of rousing his anger so she donned the black dress and lay on the bed sobbing for what seemed like an eternity before a pair of men came to drag her out and once again she endured the same puzzling tunnels before being thrust in front of a massive door, the two men left her and pushed it apart and the world seemed to explode with sound, she observed men gambling with dice with women under their arms and saw a massive table laid out with a large assortment of pig and poultry and barrels of ale, men were passed out on the floor only to have another stomp on their faces to wake them and have them add to the chaos with brawls it filled her with disgust and she wondered what would become of her; "Silence" a booming voice said and the madness stood still, "Behold my bride, come my dear" and Esaya saw her most hated foe standing in front of a massive throne and gesturing her to climb up the stairs to him, Esaya did as was told and when she was in reach he took her in arm and attempted to give some form of a speech while his crowd stood silently and listened to his drivel, one could not describe the hate flowing from her heart towards this creature they called a King she wanted to do nothing more than to make him suffer and suffer he would, Esaya was not idle and she noticed that this so called 'King' had a dagger at each hip, she saw the means to his death and all she had to do was wait for the chance; They began to cheer vigorously as he dedicated his love for Esaya and called for everyone to raise their mugs and join in a toast, serving women brought Esaya and the King each a golden goblet filled with blood red wine and she watched carefully as he pressed the cup to his lips and she saw her chance she flung her drink into his eyes, reached for his dagger and just as he regained his senses she stabbed his exposed back and the memory of the dagger exploding out of her father's torso flashed before her eyes and she sobbed, her face a mixture of sadness and hate and as she withdrew the dagger the king staggered forth with his life force clearly draining from him, Esaya looked upon his face once again before she lodged the dagger in his neck and kicked him down the flight of stairs that lead to the Throne, silence filled the air as the king lay face down in a growing pool of blood and yet Esaya still felt empty, her hate was not sated nor was her sadness gone, she slumped down onto the throne with hands still bloodied and she gazed at them wondering what they would do to her when suddenly an uproar of cheer echoed within the room and slowly chants of "All Hail Esaya, Queen of Thieves!" grew to deafening volumes.
Though she did not remember falling asleep somehow she had woken up in a bed surrounded by a small array of men and women, they introduced themselves as captains of the Guild and assured her that they would do ensure that no harm came to her however she felt nothing, no fear, no joy, no pain just a bottomless pit and at that moment she knew she had to recast herself into someone stronger or die a weakling, She turned to the captains and said "Teach me how to kill".
It has been many years since the Guild replaced its King for a Queen and of late has been quiet recently, few raids have taken place and poorly led at that; Rumor suggest that the now Queen of Thieves is gone to find some ancient treasure leaving the Guild in chaos. Wherever Esaya is however one thing is for certain, blood will follow.

17. Vehicles & Buildings
The games story mode will take place mainly within the Fortress Inaolia, Inaolia is a Huge Area, around 7.5-10km, the fortress is also vertically big as well, the walls being around 4 floors tall, some of the towers ranging from 5 floors to 6 floors, the Main Castle of Inaolia itself would be around 12 floors tall, taking all of this into consideration the players will have a massive area to play around in.
There will also be various ‘vehicles’ Catapults and stationary bastilla would be mountable and could be used against the invading armies, there is still discussions about whether to allow the catapults to fire on towers perhaps collapsing a few floors but killing multiple enemies below, destroying the towers floors would also change the areas players would be allows to move around in.
18. Weapons, Upgrades & Power-ups
Weapons within Siege of Inaolia are purely cosmetic, this makes the game more about skill and less about finding better loot, players would also be on equal footing on terms of equipment but they would be distinguished by skills, currently no plans have yet been decided concerning power ups.
19. Skills & Abilities
The Heroes skills are subject to change and vary constantly, untill a final version of the heroes abilities are made refer to the Project Head for more information or documents about the abilities of Characters.
20. Game Intelligence & Behavior
The game comprises of two enemy faction, The orcs and the daemons, both of them offer very different experiences when in combat, the Orcs focus mainly on overwhelming you with massive numbers of cannon fodder troops, with a few buffer units to make them more durable as well as including some massive Ogres or Giants to act as mini-bosses or Simply, slow lumbering damage dealers.
The Daemons on the other hand focus on attacking you from the shadows, focusing on ambushing you, flanking and/or performing deadly hit and run attacks, they feature units that have dual functions for example the ranged unit might also be a suicide unit, this keeps players on their toes when fighting them.
The AI should be able to reflect the personalities of the enemy faction, the orcs would be more straightforward, attacking head on and when their numbers dwindle focusing on using cover to preserve themselves, the daemons should be able to use the cover available to their advantage, hiding till the last moment and performing deadly strike attacks, unless in the presence of some greater daemon, they will stick to the shadows and incredibly formidable opponents.
21. Multiplayer
The game does have multiplayer in the form of 3 player co-op with each player choosing one of the three heroes or having AI fill the shoes of a player if one is not present.
22. Tutorial
Tutorial will be provided in game via popups.
23. Interfaces
We intend to have a fairly dark and gritty interface
1. Main Play
The player will have a Minimap, Health and Mana/Rage/Energy bar, Item display, Ability bar, Kill counter and Score counter.
2. Main Menu
The Main menu is currently being thought about, we are trying to summarize and display our dark and gritty atmosphere directly to the player while providing an easy to navigate interface.
24. Interface Objects
1. Buttons
The player interacts with buttons by clicking on them with his mouse pointer or using a keyboard shortcut.

25. Story
26. Style & Structure
The Story will focus on the themes of ‘bonds’ and how those bonds are formed when placed in a difficult situation.
27. Background Story
A Brief History of Ilastria
It is said that long ago there existed three Gods, Magar the god of Chaos and Rage, Aelunia the godess of Harmony and Order  and Karum the god of Magic and Neutrality; They created the universe and decided its path according to the choice most in favor, Magar and Aelunia would each offer one side of an arguement and Karum would tip the scales in favor of one or the other but during the Age of Creation on a world they named Ilastria something new was forming that was not of their design nor decision, Life was erupting within the planet and spewing forth primitive beings that they had no control over and this troubled them.
An arguement raged for a millennia between the gods each having their own views on these life forms, Magar wanted to destroy Ilastria and any other world that gave birth to life, Aelunia wanted to let them live and flurish while offering them guidance and Karum wanted to unearth the secrets they had come from and in the end Ilastria was spared but Magar was not pleased, he took up his mighty axe and despite the unanimous decision from the other gods he stuck Ilastria and cleaved it into two halves.

In their half the humans formed mighty kingdoms and cultivated their lands whilst expanding their knowledge of the world around them, it was soon discovered that a few rare individuals possessed the gift to wield magic and in time even control it, these few individuals were often scorned, hated and feared for their immense raw power, this led to a group of these gifted humans to create a white city far from the reach of normal humans where more of their kind would be able to cultivate and grow their gift and so came the Wizards; Two more factions were made from the human kingdoms, The Crimson Knights - Humanities finest warriors given the best mental conditioning and physical training along with the very best equipment to defend against the foes of mankind and The Theives - Unwealthy folk that took to a live of pick pocketing, cutpursing, mugging and assasination, they sought to steal their way to a better life, these two factions often clashed due to their conflicting goals, The Crimson Knights were there to safeguard humanity while the Theives stole from and killed innocents, the Head of the order resolved to create a mighty fortress within the only safe gap of the Binding Belt so that they could combat the orc assaults with ease on one end and deploy Knights to combat the thieves on the other, they named the Fortress Inaolia and used it as their head quarters.
In the other half however life was very different, the orcs lived a primitive tribal lifestyle with various chieftains ruling over individual clans a few more powerful orcs would be able to unite a few clans under his control but it would have taken a truly mighty orc to gather all of the clansmen under one banner but none were able to rise up to the challenge, the landscape was untamed and brutal where the vegetation could be as dangerous as the wildlife and the orcs had learned to live alongside the other races that populated their half of Ilastria ranging from the Ogres of the black forest to the Cyclopes in their frozen hells; The Orcs were often counseled and guided by wrinkled orcs who had mastered primal yet powerful magic and were able to call down lighting bolts or even bring back their kin from the brink of death, the orcs prized them and called them shaman; Eventually a Chieftain by the name of Bjor rose up and was Bold, Powerful and Cunning even for an orc was able to gather most of the orc clans under his might but was intent on gathering the entire horde for one purpose, to strike at the humans and wipe their race from Ilastria, the Chieftain sent smaller hordes to test the might of the humans only to find out that they had new defenders known as the Crimson Knights and he knew that his horde was not prepared so over time he kept increasing his horde, either by making other clan chieftains bow before him or severing their heads in a battle to the death and all was going according to his plan.
Bjor was not idle however he had amassed his massive army and had brought the Orges, Cyclopes and all manner of beast to him and armed them with leather and raided steel, the Crimson Knights were slowly trying to extend their reach further into Orc land and he would not have it, he summoned his army and marched them towards the outposts and within three days the outposts fell in a swift manner overun by the green tide.
The Crimson Knights had recieved reports that their outposts were under attack but by the time they had ammased their entire force and sent the civillians far away their outposts had fallen and the orcs were just beyond Inaolia's mighty gates; A legion of five hundred thousand knights faced up agaisnt ten million orcs and according to the history books of scholars the Crimson Knights defeated the orcs and slew Bjor but that was not how it ended, night had fallen when the armies readied themselves for battle but before they could clash a purple portal opened up swirling with fire and the smell of death and spewed out a small score of unknown figured, horned and grotesque as they were their bodies possesed horrible power and that very same handful of Daemons wiped out both the Orcs and the Crimson Knights and fled into their portal before the sun could rise.
Bjor was no where to be seen but one could hardly tell Crimson Knight from Orc due to their bodies so horribly twisted and destoryed, the survivors of the Order decided to reforge their home fortress deep

28. Storyline
The storyline takes place just as tensions between the orcs and humans are high, with a war imminent but the humans are likely to lose as they are still weakened by the previous war, the orcs on the other hand are being led by a warchief are preparing a strike on the humans, little did they know that an obstacle still lies in the form of our 3 heroes.

29. Characters & Units
Sometime later the Order had received reports that many of their outposts beyond their abandonned fortress Inaolia were under increasing numbers of attack and would soon be lost if the onslaughts continued; The Order dispatched their finest warriors, among which was Duncan, to ensure the safety of the Towns and Villages that were located nearest to Inaolia.
Duncan embraced his orders with zeal and set forth to his assigned destination; As he traveled through the one of the dense forestes of the Human Kingdoms he was ambushed by a group of bandits, in normal circumstances Duncan could take on enemies ten times his own number but as he was about to press his attack a noose strangeled his foot and thrust him up into the trees, while disoriented and disabled he recieved a sharp slam to the back of his head and slowly started to lose conciousness and the world gradually grew darker but not before he heard the slice of steel cutting flesh and an agonizing yell of pain.
He awoke in a small hovel lying in a makeshift straw bed with a fire that him warm, his armor  lay beside him along with his weapons, he sat up but then regretted the decision as his head was still spinning from the impact, he winced in pain as lightly touched the lump on his head and at that second a shrowded figure burst through the door flaps, Duncan reached for his sword but the figure spoke out first and assured Duncan that he wouldnt need protection and moved to remove his hood and beneath it was a face weathered by the elements but tough and hard all the same, a warriors face thought Duncan; The man introduced himself as Ezekiel and suggested Duncan rest before he set off again and would not hear of anything else.
When Duncan woke once again the man was sitting around the fire staring blindly at the flames, Duncan decided to prepare himself to leave and as he doned his armor Ezekiel spoke out, "There are horrors in this world, stuff made of nightmares", Duncan asked him about what he meant and as the old man spoke and described the story Duncans eyes grew wide with horror, he spoke of the battle of Inaolia, the true battle he called it and described it as a battle waged with a handful of horrors so powerful that they defeated both the Orcs and the Knights before the sun rose; Naturally Duncan was enraged at first, he thought of it as some cruel jape to insult the strength of the Crimson Knights at that Ezekiel removed the shrowd covering his body only to reveal a disgusting sight of semi healed scars but in the midst of that he could make out a single spot of flesh that wasnt affected and that bore a withed tattoo of an enraged dragon, a mark only given to the finest of finest warriors within the order and for this man to be reduced to what he was now shocked Duncan and when questioning Ezekiel on why he hadn't returned to the new fortress he said that it was because the Order wishes for the events of that day to die the very same or would kill anyone who brought it about, it was then Duncan realized that this man was survivor of that day, a flurry of emotions raged through Duncan, Anger and Confusion with a dab of betrayal thrown in but with no one to aim it at; They both stood there staring at the fire in silence but it was not long before Ezekiel broke it and told Duncan to seek out Inaolia if he wanted proof and Duncan left that hovel doing intending to do just that.

Duncan serves as the Melee focused character of the group, depending on his selected mastery he is able to serve a single or dual roles as either a Tank who soaks up damage, a damage dealer, a supporting melee or any two combinations, keep this in mind as when you choose to opt for dual specs you might not be as strong in a single role as someone who has picked a single mastery.
Duncan serves as the morally ‘good’ character within the game, due to his background he considers the order of the Crimson Knights as his family and is committed wholly to their traditions, standards and beliefs.
Draeldos
It was the most saddening sight for Ordello as he observed Draeldos covered with ancient runes with a grin so confident and pleased, "I have failed you, forgive me Draeldos" and with that Ordello assaulted Draeldos and a flurry of magic flew from both sides but within the span of a few minutes Ordello knew he was fighting a lost battle and with that thought he was flung to the wall and was unable to move, "Master I am sorry for this but now I know where to go, I can never go back to how I was before you saved me""This is not the path Draeldos, do not do this""Goodbye Master" and with that he disappeared in a flash of lightning to his goal, Inaolia.

Draeldos serves as the mysterious yet highly humorous character of the group, often japing of every situation due to his high ego which is in turn due to his high ability as a wizard.
Gameplay wise he serves as a balance between Ranged and Melee, able to specialize into either or remain natural to give him a wider range of combat tactics.

Esaya

Esaya serves as the sadistic person of the group, she provides a darker side of the game, often giddy with killing people, due to her past history which saw her turn from a nobles daughter into the queen of thieves, it leaves her with a very damaged mental state which causes her to develop this sadistic attitude.
Esaya is the ranged focused element of the group, using her crossbow/bow to dispatch enemies from a distance, with her selected mastery's she can fulfill the role of a Ranged combatant, a hit and run melee combatant or a trap laying supporter, whichever mastery is chosen she is able to be potent in melee as well as ranged combat via her daggers and bow/crossbow.
